NOTES ON THE 126TH
NATIONAL CONVENTION
I would like to thank CT 11 and the New England States Association
for sponsoring me for my
very first (and I hope not the last) convention.
This was a wonderful opportunity
for me to see how things operate on a national level and also to meet new people
from the various chapters of NAPE. This event has revitalized and renewed my
commitment to this great organization.
We had a strong New England States presence with three NES officers amongst the
five delegates. NESAPE Vice President Bill Judd (PNP, MA4), Secretary Shawn
Fitzpatrick (PNP, RI1), Region 1 Director Barry Battista (MA4), Dave Winchell
(CT11), and myself (NESAPE President and CT11) were there to represent you at
this fine event.
The convention was held in the Historic District of Philadelphia. All of the
historic sites (such as the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Ben Franklin
House/Museum, etc.) were a short walk from the hotel. As this is the height of
the tourist season for
Philadelphia
, there were a lot of people out on the streets and a vibrant night scene, with
many cafes, clubs, and restaurants. The Metropolitan District and PA76 did a
marvelous job putting together this convention. I would like to thank them for
all of their hard work in making this event a resounding success.
We also were provided with a choice of tours: QVC Channel or
Girard
College
facilities tour. I chose the facility tour of
Girard
College
and left my credit card at home! The
folks at Girard were very knowledgeable and dedicated to their work. They have
been upgrading an older heating and cooling system dating from the late 1930s
with much success in energy savings. One of the operators has mapped out the
control system using autocad, which is very impressive. We also toured some of
their beautiful older buildings on the campus.
The board meetings and caucus were very productive. We elected a new slate of
National Officers and are proud to announce our very own Barry Battista is now
the National Secretary after much coercion and convincing by several delegates.
Congratulations, Barry! You will bring your vaunted energy and skills to the
office for all of our benefit! Our newly elected National Officers are as
follows:
